C.S. Lasater ~ I was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and given up for adoption as an infant. I was raised in Houston, Texas, and continued to live there for many years. In 2000, after my husband retired, we moved to Northwest Arkansas. In 2003, I was miraculously reunited with my birth family and in the excitment of discovering my new family and ancestory, I came across the Howdeshells.
My direct Howdeshell ancestor, Hiram, settled right here in Benton County, Arkansas, in 1856, not 15 miles from where we now live. My excitement grew from there, and being a lover of historical fiction, I decided to write about their story beginning with the first steps onto American soil.
Out of Many Waters is primarily a work of fiction that takes the known facts of the life of Joseph Howdeshell (1769-1845) and seeks to bring them to life in the context of his times. I’m hoping to write another book, Out of the Ashes, which will cover the life of Hiram’s family during and after the Civil War.
I have always wanted to live in the country, with lots of hills and trees, and horses. I am now in the place of my dreams and I am so thankful for the beautiful vistas, four distinct seasons, and three wonderful horses. I enjoy trail riding in the nearby national forests and teaching horsemanship to young teens.
